Online Poker Etiquette

Playing poker online is not exactly the same as playing face to face with others in a casino. However, there is still basic etiquette that you should follow when you play online so that both you and your opponents have a positive experience. You must comprehend the basic player's behavour rules.

Much of online poker etiquette has to do with using the chat feature. Just as you would refrain from using inappropriate language in a casino, be polite when you use the chat feature online as well. When chatting, don't be critical of the way other people play. Don't point out the mistakes of others or brag about winning. If you must discuss your hand with other players, be sure that you wait until the hand is over, even if you have already folded. When the hand is over, be very limited in how much you talk about how it was played. If you folded, don't talk about what could have happened if you had stayed in. No one but you is interested in that.

Online poker etiquette also involves refraining from doing things that distract others or slow down the game. If you are trying to message a specific player and do not get a response, do not continue to send messages. Some people play with the chat feature off because they don't want to be distracted. If you need to take a break, always use the "sit out" feature. That way, your hand will automatically be folded and you won't keep other players waiting. If you are playing in more than one poker room at a time, be sure you are able to play all of your hands without holding up any of the games. Chatting can also hold up the game, and this is another reason that it should be limited. Remember that the primary reason people come into online casinos is to play poker, not to chat.
